Roots: Growing Deeper

About Me

Hey! It's me, Jess. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my blog! You're probably thinking, okay, so what's the story behind this blog? In order for you to understand the purpose of my blog and why I write about the things I do, I'm going to tell you a little bit "about me" and my story.
I have been extremely blessed and have grown up in an amazing Christian family. My wonderful parents, Rick and Jo'ell have been such a blessing to me. I am the oldest of five children. I'm 18, and I have a 15 year old brother, Brent. My next brother is Dane, who is 11, Morgan, 9, and Christian, 6.
When I was five, I became a Christian, and have been growing in my faith in the Lord and growing closer to my Savior ever since.
When I was 15 my family felt the call to become Missionaries in Autlan, Jalisco, Mexico. As a family we began a new chapter in our lives, fulfilling our call to be disciples of Christ in Mexico, in November of 2007. It is at this time that I began my blog.
Mexico was an absolute life-changing experience. God molded me and taught me more than I ever could have imagined in my three years serving there. He stretched and challenged me in ways that were sometimes extremely hard. He laid things on my heart to do that I didn't think I was capable of doing. Christ gave me opportunities, long lasting friendships, and taught me incredible things that I would never have experienced if I never went to Mexico.
In August of 2010, the chapter of my life serving in Mexico full time, had come to an end, and the Lord had called me to begin a new chapter. I moved back to the place I had grown up, Salem, Oregon, and began attending Corban University. I am currently a student there, and loving life as I daily seek God's wisdom and knowing where He wants me to go, and what He wants me to do with my life. I am thinking and praying about majoring in Journalism. After I get my degree I would continue on and get an Art degree, with the desire to become a photo-journalist. Traveling intrigues me, and I love photography and writing. With photo-journalism, I could do all three of these things. However, I'm open to anything, and plan on just waiting to see what God lays on my heart to do.
Well, for those of you who don't know me that well, that's a little more about who I am.
Here's a few more things to know about me, just for fun. =)
I love to play the piano. I drive a 20 year-old, little red car. I love to read, and I eat way too many Oreo's.
I'm very athletic. I love to play frisbee, volleyball, and love to run. Pretty much anything active that's going on, I'm there.
Like I said above, I really like photography. I actually began a photo-blog this year. You can check that out at www.cuttingedgefotos412.blogspot.com. With this 'Mexico Girl' blog, I express myself through words, and on my "Cutting Edge Fotos" blog, I express myself through pictures and capturing images of God's creation.
If you'd like to know anything else "about me", just ask! I'd love to talk with you.
                 In Christ, Jessica
